HYALURONIC ACID

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule found predominantly in our  connective tissue, skin and eyes. It is the main reason for our plump, youthful and hydrated skin. It is commonly used as a humectant —substance that draws moisture from the environment into the skin, helping to keep it hydrated—  as well in skincare, and makeup! It is generally safe to use even more for those who are pregnant or nursing due to it being a naturally occurring substance in the body, making it well tolerated by most people.

LACTIC ACID

Lactic acid is a chemical exfoliant that comes from the fermentation of lactose, which is found in milk. The use of this product dates back to ancient Egypt when Cleopatra used to bathe in sour milk to keep her skin looking more youthful, and its popularity in use remains today.  Lactic acid is part of the alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) family, a group of water-soluble organic compounds known for their remarkable benefits in cosmetic formulations, especially for skincare and has an additional advantage  that other AHAs do not have. Lactic acid increases cell turnover and helps in eliminating accumulated dead skin cells on the top layer of the skin (the epidermis).  When used in 12% concentrations, lactic acid helps the skin become firmer and thicker, resulting in a smoother appearance with fewer fine lines and wrinkles. At this concentration, lactic acid can penetrate deeper into the skin layers, delivering more profound results. In contrast, lower concentrations around 5% primarily affect the skin's surface, offering similar benefits but on a more superficial level.

GLYCOLIC ACID

Glycolic acid is a naturally occurring compound found in certain fruits beets and sugarcane and in its pure form, it is odorless and colorless. Glycolic acid like Lactic acid is part of the AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) family and is included in tropical products by cosmetic and pharmaceutical companies to treat skin conditions or improve skin texture and appearance. Glycolic acid like Lactic acid is part of the AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) family.   Properties of glycolic acid are:  Exfoliative: As a chemical exfoliant, glycolic acid removes the outermost layer of skin cells and oil by dissolving them. Glycolic acid does not require harsh scrubbing unlike physical exfoliants such as face scrubs and brushes.  Humectant: Glycolic acid is also a Humectant which attracts and binds water to skin, similar to hyaluronic acid. This is achieved by increasing the synthesis of glycosaminoglycans — molecules that draw water in the skin.  Antibacterial  Anti-aging: Glycolic acid can reduce some of the processes that cause visible signs of skin aging. It can reduce sun damage and boost collagen production and hyaluronic acid in the skin, giving it elasticity and structure. Research has accordingly, found that Glycolic acid helps with Acne, UV damage and hyperpigmentation.

ASCORBIC ACID

Commonly known as Vitamin C, ascorbic acid and its salts—such as Calcium Ascorbate, Magnesium Ascorbate, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Sodium Ascorbate, and Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate—are widely used in cosmetics, skincare, and hair care products. These forms of Vitamin C are known to help reduce both photoaging and natural skin aging by minimizing oxidative stress from internal and external factors, while also promoting collagen production and maturation. As an essential nutrient for collagen synthesis and tissue repair, Vitamin C also acts as a powerful antioxidant, helping to protect the body from infections and even serving as a preventive treatment for scurvy.

FLUORPHLOGOPITE

Synthetic Fluorphlogopite (also spelled Fluorophlogopite) is a fluorine substituted mineral composed of magnesium aluminum silicate sheets, weakly bound together by potassium. It is used in a wide range of cosmetics and personal care products including bath products, makeup, as well as nail and skin care products and functions as an aqueous product, which is a bulking agent and a viscosity increasing agent.  Phlogopite is a natural mineral part of the mica family, consisting of layers of magnesium aluminum silicate sheets weakly bound together by potassium ions. Synthetic Fluorphlogopite is similar, however in the manufacturing process (which requires high temperatures), some of the hydroxyl groups in the mineral are replaced with fluorine atoms. In addition, while natural phlogopite may be yellow, green or red in color, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite is instead white to gray in color.
